CHARTER FOR THE INTERNATIONAL DIALOGUE OF YOUTH
The new global order calls for a cross-partisan and international dialogue to overcome the challenges of our changing world. It calls upon the world’s youth to embody this new vision of international relations and requires widespread support in this mission to foster international dialogue.
THE NEW GLOBAL ORDER…
At a time when the geopolitical maps are being redrawn by the emergence of new world powers;
At a time when economic and financial crises demand new channels of cooperation;
At a time when globalisation increases inequalities both within and between states;
At a time when borders are being made irrelevant by the globalisation of environmental, sanitary and social risks;
At a time when these trends are redefining the world order, it has become a social and political necessity to learn to work with and to manage diversity. Firstly, a social necessity because globalisation leads to the questioning of western values and to the possibility of their reinforcement through dialogue; but secondly a political necessity arising from the weakened relevance of the national scale and the ever increasing pull of international and community levels.
… CALLS FOR A CROSS-PARTISAN AND INTERNATIONAL DIALOGUE TO OVERCOME THE CHALLENGES OF OUR CHANGING WORLD…
The return of identity politics and the temptation for communities to enclose themselves;
The new international tensions, both economic and political, especially with regards to the distribution of wealth, climate change-induced instability and insecurity, intellectual property, management of economic and financial crises, and migration;
The need to define new modes of governance for crisis-prone regions, making use of all the tools provided by existing international institutions, amongst which the United Nations, and international civil society;
Remind us of the necessity of fostering dialogue and the use of international negotiation between the Nations of our world. The creation of the G20, alongside the meetings of the G8, responds to this call. Youth Diplomacy’s objective is to mobilise the French Youth and integrate them in this international dialogue.
… AND CALLS UPON THE WORLD’S YOUTH TO EMBODY THIS NEW VISION OF INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS…
Firmly anchored with this humanist and pragmatic philosophy the G8 and G20 Youth Summits are promoted by the international G8 Youth Network, recently enlarged to encompass the G20, of which Youth Diplomacy is the Gallic ambassador.
This global network aims at:
Promoting a humanist, open and pacified vision of international relations through the exercise of international negotiation simulations backed by global academic excellence;
Promote awareness among young citizens, especially the French Youth Delegation, of the issues discussed during the G8 and G20 summits;
Encourage future world leader, today’s youth, to recognise the virtues of international dialogue by exposing them to multilateral negotiation techniques;
Formulate innovative responses to the challenges discussed in the G8 and G20 summits, and to pass them on to the competent authority of the French Republic.
… AND REQUIRES WIDESPREAD SUPPORT IN THIS MISSION TO FOSTER INTERNATIONAL DIALOGUE.
